The 2007 reunion, hosted by Ben Hruska & Ken Bruce was held May 29-Jun 2nd at the Warwick Radisson Hotel near Providence, RI. This reunion included Cecil Clarke, a former POW from the UK who joined us along with Michael Hurst, Director of the Taiwan POW Camps Memorial Society to commemorate the rescue of POWs by the CVE 106 and other ships.

The highlight of the reunion week was a trip on the high-speed ferry to the Old Harbor at Block Island, RI. Waiting for us with flags waving were children from Block Island School, members of American Legion Post 36, and many other island residents. Member were transported to Legion Park  where a special program had been prepared by island residents. The Town Council, American Legion, and Block Island Historical Society honored the courage of these heroes and gave special appreciation to all Association members and their departed shipmates. Following the ceremonies a lunch had been prepared by the island residents for all their guests ( see additional information on Reunion Highlights page ).

Tours for the week included a visit to Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA which was highlighted by a 21 gun salute to honor our veterans.

During the General Membership meeting an election was held to fill two vacancies, Russ Nielsen is a new Director and our new Secretary is George Shepke.

At the 2007 Reunion Memorial Service, 41 names were read of those that have died since our last reunion. Once again many families and friends of USS Block Island crew members joined us for a week of fond memories and strong relationships that will last forever.
